During a journalism career covering more than four decades, I worked with some of the best newspaper photographers in the Midwest. I wrote words. They made pictures. Now that I am retired, my camera has replaced my keyboard, and the change has allowed for new creativity and a chance to practice some of what I learned from all those shooters. I photograph what interests me with the hope that a viewer will make a link that goes beyond the surface of things. A portrait ought to be about more than what someone looks like. A landscape should invite you in. At least, that’s what I think. I’m a grandfather of six. I live in Saint Paul. Life is good.
